Disclaimer: I am not being compensated for this review – I found a product and fell in love and I’m sharing my experience with you candidly, and Hickies was nice enough to let me include a giveaway with this post. They provided me with a sample of their product so I could provide a thorough review for you.
When I first saw an ad in my Facebook feed for Hickies, stretchable, bow-less sneaker fasteners, I was immediately intrigued. First off, they were super cute. Second, I’ve never had an issue with having to tie my shoes but I wondered what the benefit would be.
The idea originally started as a Kickstarter campaign (that raised 600% more than their goal!) by Argentinian couple Gastón Frydlewski and Mariquel Waingarten, and within a year developed into “a viable, burgeoning global company.”
I chose to start with regular and they were super easy to put in. You thread them in and across your shoes (as you can see in the lacing techniques videos on their page) and then flip them over and attach them. I put my foot in my shoe before attaching them and that wasn’t necessary at all – I found when putting my shoes on the next day, they stretch so you can just slip your foot into your shoe with no heel issues at all.
I’ve put my Hickies through every workout I do – lifting, running and intense cardio. They held up great – no issues with slipping or popping open. I was worried they would be more rigid than traditional laces and cut into my feet, but I found them to be very comfortable, flexible, and didn’t notice a difference in fit or feel at all.
In addition to them being super convenient in terms of time, I love the fact that double-knotting long laces or even stopping a run or workout to re-tie my shoes will ever be an issue.
Hickies come in a super convenient and portable case, and you get 14 so you have a few extras. They currently come in brown, blue/white, black, black/yellow, orange, grey, white, rainbow, black sprinkles, pink, cyan, red, and yellow. You can literally get a pair to match all of your shoes.
At $14.99 + shipping these are affordable, too. You won’t break the bank upgrading your laces!
I personally am slowly going to be replacing all of my workout and regular shoe laces with Hickies – I’m really enjoying them. My husband, who has been leaning toward shoes he can slip on more and more, is also in love with the product. I’m not sure how someone didn’t come up with these before, but I’m glad Frydlewski and Waingarten got together to create them!
